Parent Tips: No Back to School Shopping 08/08/2010
If you're like me, you're probably wondering what to do with your kids outgrown clothing. Maybe purchasing new clothes, even at discount are not in the cards for you. Here's some designer tips to make the clothes last a little longer by REPURPOSING! 1) An old t-shirt that doesn't fit over the head: find a spot on the neckline and cut down about 2-3 inches. Sew on a small zipper, snaps or ribbon to make an adjustable neckline 2) An old t-shirt that shows too much belly: Take the width of the shirt, and multiply by 2. Cut a piece of fabric to that size, and sew on to the bottom hem of the t-shirt. Sew on a hem (size to your liking) on the new bottom piece and voila, you've got a new stylized version of original t-shirt. Look out for more tips in this blog. Let's save money and make the clothes last longer! That's being great for the environment! Why not engage the kids in a discussion of all that goes into manufacturing when you hit the stores for back to school. Here's some ideas of questions you can ask your kids: 1) Where is this product made? 2) What are the materials it is made of? 3) When was it made (if available) 4) Is it organic? One day, I hope manythe kids will look at shopping in a more eco-friendly way, critically analyzing as they go. Green Expo came and went, on to new things 08/08/2010
Hi, the kids did GREAT! at the runway show. Noa Alinogreen, a natural make up artist coordinated all the children and her own little girl, what an awesome job. Pretty soon I'll post pics up in case you missed it! I'm so thankful to Theresa for helping with the display; and parents and their kids for being so patient! I want to share this link with you: http://www.nytimes.com/2010/08/09/health/research/09puberty.html?_r=1 I just worry so much about hormones and well, I try to keep my daughter hormone-free when it comes to the food she eats; but I know there's definitely room for improvement, I have a hard time finding fast food that meets quality organic hormone-free criteria. Please feel free to comment on any suggestions. This afternoon after a long two days of displaying my products, I decided to take my nephew and niece for back to school shopping at a chain discount store (no names). I made them choose their products based on where they were manufactured. Not one Made in the USA product was there for what they were looking for. They managed to avoid Made in China except for one thing. The rest were made in Phillipines, Indonesia, Dominican Republic, Honduras, Mexico. Lovely places to visit I'm sure, but the impact on the environment by ships carrying large containers is too much for this mom to take; more needs to be done to ensure all stores offer made in the USA products; not to mention locally made. What are your thoughts on buying kids products made in the USA? New products are in, Made in the USA of course. I have some medical grade teethers and rubber duckies (made in California); as well as CPSC certified bubble wands and bubble powder (made in Florida). Send us pics of your kids playing with these non-toxic alternatives to playthings out in stores. These products are not readily available so I'm proud to say I'm one of the few retailers selling these in the San Diego area. Green Expo and Kid's Day 08/03/2010

What a blast it was last Friday and Sunday, when the two farmers markets I belong to launched the children's program for all kids under 18. I have been lucky to have helped organize in partnership with Ez2B-Green and Brian of San Diego Market Manager. Now kids can have more fun at the market by doing activities throughout the market and getting their passport's "stamped" for a chance to get market bucks and prizes. Pick up your passport today! At Ez2B-Green or Mi Trompito booths. July 4th Fireworks 07/06/2010
This was my daughter's second fourth of July, and we luckily were able to spend it with family, since my husband was working. I love my sis in law Alice and her family and mom in law Ada. The kids got to swim forever in the pool; and my daughter is now fully able to doggy paddle from one end of the pool to the other with her floatie on, makes me so proud. With the fireworks she was silent, amazed at the marvelous colors. Definitely unforgettable! New this week: I'm excited to have introduced new custom handkerchiefs with initial embroidery. Come check them out this Friday and Sunday if you're in town. I've also found a way to link the website to my twitter account GinaMaribel. Last chance to choose your organic adjustable a-line dress before they go into production. If you miss the deadline (Thursday July 8) you can still get them; as I have chosen some neat new ribbons and fabrics. Don't forget to submit your pics for the summer contest - what can you create with fabric scraps? Be creative, it doesn't have to be sewn! New organic fabrics! 06/05/2010
Hi there, It's been a couple of weeks since my last entry. My parents were in town and we visited my sister in San Francisco, who is now a Master Industrial Designer (we're so proud!). We have some new organic fabrics in stock, you will be able to see them at the Point Loma Farmers Market on Sundays. Right now I'll be showing swatches for adjustable a-line dresses for sizes 2T, 4T and 6. Come by and check it out! Text4baby partnership 05/13/2010

I'm very passionate about maternal and child health programs; and am glad to announce our new partnership with the text4baby program sponsored by the National Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies Coalition (HMHB). Check our home page for more information on the program and how to sign up! Please pass on the information to your family and friends! Look forward to meeting more of you at upcoming events, including the weekly Sunday farmers market in Point Loma. If you're interested in seeing our products in your local stores; please let us know. Have a great weekend! Post Title. 05/09/2010
Happy Mothers Day! Today I'm going to bring some neat arts and crafts for kids to make for moms; if you're in the area, stop on by at the Point Loma Farmers Market. I wish all you moms a wonderful day! First Post! 04/28/2010
After more than one year planning this business, we are finally here. I've already showcased the products at different events throughout San Diego County and am now installed every Sunday at the Point Loma Farmers Market from 9:30-2:30. Check back often to see the new pieces to be released; as well as contests and winners to be held at the farmers market booth every Sunday. And for parents that find it hard to take children to the market; I have a special play area for kids, all set up with contests and a puppet theater and other goodies. No obligation at all, come enjoy a break with your child(ren) to keep them (and you) happy. It's actually set up for my daughter, but I'm sure other kids would enjoy. As an added bonus, it's a lesson in sharing for my daughter. Look forward to seeing your posts and meeting you in person. |
